DALLAS – Dec. 19, 2012 The Professional Retail Store Maintenance Association, (PRSM), the authority on retail, multi-site facilities management, today launched a new disaster and crisis management resource designed to help the retail facilities manager plan for, endure and recover from a broad spectrum of disasters, such as hurricanes, floods and other potentially devastating events.

The “Disaster Planning and Management Toolkit” is a multi-dimensional resource for retail facilities managers who deal directly with the impact of disasters, whether they are natural such as tornadoes, earthquakes, storms, etc., or from the man-made variety.

The toolkit is a compilation of approximately 40 links to instructional manuals, webinars, templates and guides provided by more than two dozen associations, government agencies and service providers, including:

  • Academy Fire Protection
  • American Red Cross
  • Building Owners and Managers Association
  • Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
  • Department of Health and Human Services
  • Department of Homeland Security
  • Disaster Recovery Journal
  • EPA
  • Facility Management Journal
  • FEMA
  • Institute for Business & Home Safety
  • National Hurricane Center
  • National Weather Service
  • NOAA
  • U.S. Small Business Administration

“Since these disasters take a toll on retail businesses in the form of lost lives, injuries, unexpected expenses, and lost revenue,  it’s necessity for facilities professionals to be prepared to limit the impact of a disaster so that their stores can return to normal business operation as quickly as possible,” said PRSM Association Executive Director Patricia Dameron. “Disaster planning and management is an ongoing process for all retailers and vendors, who need access to information and resources immediately when a disaster strikes.”

Click the Disaster Planning and Management Toolkit link for access to the latest component in PRSM Association’s online Resources center.

PRSM Association’s Resources Center provides management tools for the Retail FM and the vendor supplier community. Resources include quarterly white paper releases; the annual Best Practices Manual, representing a wide spectrum of FM industry trades; and the Retail Facilities Benchmarking program, along with other research-based Trends Reports, Buyer’s Guide resources (print and online), and online Toolkits that feature learning, combined with practical guides to problem solving. Resources also include the bi-monthly magazine, Professional Retail Store Maintenance (print and electronic), and PRSM Weekly (an electronic, news-focused newsletter).
