The LEED for Existing Buildings Rating System assists in measuring operational performance and maintenance of commercial buildings on a consistent scale.  The goal of the rating system is to maximize building efficiency and to minimize its environmental impact.  LEED for Existing Buildings addresses whole-building cleaning and maintenance issues, recycling programs, exterior maintenance programs, and systems upgrades. It can be applied both to existing buildings seeking initial LEED certification and to projects certified previously under LEED for New Construction.
