PRSM Teams Up with Ecoxera

The Professional Retail Store Maintenance Association (PRSM) has chosen Ecoxera as its sustainability consultant. Ecoxera will work with PRSM to develop a robust sustainability program for its members.

There is confusion in the sustainability market place - Ecoxera and PRSM's collaboration will bring clarity and direction for programs and practices that make business sense while helping retailers deliver on environmental commitments. The program will include innovative, revenue-generating tools, education and resources such as guides, articles, best-practice sharing, white papers and a number of interactive features such as a discussion forum and "Ask the Expert" Web feature on sustainability topics.

Green Initiatives Action Plan

The Green Initiative was established in the Fall of 2007 by 2007/2008 PRSM Association Board President Kyle Brekke to address the needs of the PRSM Association membership to acquire education and information about greening and sustainability efforts that retailers can pursue to be more environmentally friendly in a cost effective manner.

His initial action was to establish a Green Council charged with recommending and developing quality programs for PRSM members to address environmentally conscious issues facing retail facilities maintenance professionals. The long term goal of the Council is to raise awareness about the benefits associated with green initiatives, to provide assistance to members about how to be environmentally friendly and how to adopt eco friendly and energy efficient business practices within their company.

PRSM Becomes an Energy Star Partner

PRSM achieved a goal of the Green Council Plan by making a fundamental commitment to protect the environment by becoming an ENERGY STAR partner. PRSM, through its voluntary partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's ENERGY STAR Program, will work to improve energy efficiency and fight global warming. PRSM and its members support that a strategic, corporate energy management program will aid in preserving the environment for future generations.

In partnership with ENERGY STAR, PRSM will:

  • Help spread the word about the importance of energy efficiency to the retail community;
  • Support the ENERGY STAR Challenge, a national call-to-action to help improve the energy efficiency of America's commercial and industrial buildings by 10 percent or more;
  • Highlight our achievements with recognition offered through ENERGY STAR.

Recycling Savings

"Your Financial Savings Produces an Even Greater Environmental Benefit"

Tonya Martin, National Account Manager

Smurfit-Stone Recycling

Every time your business recycles one ton (2,000 lbs.) of paper:

  • 7,000 gallons of water is saved.
  • 3.3 cubic yards of landfill space is saved.
  • 17 trees are saved.
  • 380 gallons of oil is saved.
  • 4000 kilowatts of energy is saved. This being enough energy needed to power the average American home for six months.

This represents a 64% energy savings, a 58% water savings, and 60 pounds less of air pollution!
