Job Description
Brown Shoe is looking for a Manager, Store Maintenance. The position will be based in our St. Louis worldwide headquarters. You must be very motivated and organized with strong project management skills. Previous experience in retail store planning, construction and/or maintenance is required. This role is responsible to ensure stores are serviced within time guidelines with minimal interruption to staff and customers. You will maintain financial budgets while constantly working to better the store environment for customer and staff.


Position Accountabilities

  • Assures that all Brown Shoe Company stores are maintained, repaired, secured and serviced within company standards and budget
  • Assures that assigned Famous Footwear and Naturalizer maintenance upgrade projects (carpet replacements, fixture layout changes, lighting upgrades, sign upgrades, and other capital movements) are completed on schedule and within budget
  • Assures that all unplanned "emergency repairs" are expedited to immediately correct safety hazards, eliminate disruption to business operations and minimize exposure to additional repair cost
  • Assures effective communication standards are maintained in updating field teams, vendors, and inter-office personnel.
  • Assures that all store closings are effectively planned and executed, resulting in on-time turnover of spaces to landlords and cost-effective reallocation of fixtures, supplies and assets from closed stores to new stores, existing stores, or distribution centers.

Position Essential Functions

  • Manages national programs and services for maintaining all Famous Footwear and Naturalizer stores, including maintenance programs for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, janitorial, storefront glass, and other maintenance and repairs
  • Coordinates assigned remodeling projects, including: planning, scheduling, bidding, permitting, contracting, constructing, fixturing and sign installing for assigned projects
  • Manages store closings, disposition of store assets and "broom clean" condition required to turnover space to landlords
  • Travels to sites to survey existing conditions, inspect work progress and verify completion of final punch list items
  • Manages day to day business relationships with general contractors, vendors, suppliers and consultants
  • Manages national programs and services to reduce and control expenses associated with store maintenance and remodels

Position Specifications

Educational Preference:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Administration, Engineering, Architecture or equivalent experience

 Job Experience:

  • 3 years experience in construction and facilities management
  • Previous experience in retail store planning, construction and/or maintenance
  • Strong project management and customer service skills, as well as, technical, managerial, and communication skills
