Four PRSM Retailers Win Advanced RTU Campaign Awards from DOE

Four PRSM retailers, H&M, Giant Tiger Stores Limited, Target Corporation, and Ulta Beauty were honored today by the The Department of Energy (DOE) as recipients of the DOE Advanced Roof Top Unit (RTU) Campaign Awards. The awards were presented during PRSM2017 National Conference held in Grapevine, TX..

The Advanced RTU Campaign is a national initiative co-organized by ASHRAE, Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA), Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) and the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Better Buildings Alliance that encourages commercial building owners/occupants to replace RTUs with high-efficiency models, retrofit existing RTUs with advanced controllers, and/or continue quality maintenance of existing RTUs.  Each year, the Advanced Rooftop Unit (RTU) Campaign recognizes organizations for leadership and excellence in commercial building RTU efficiency.

Other winners included: Life Time – Healthy Way of Life, CLEAResult, Fontana Unified School District, and Xcel Energy Colorado.

“Energy efficiency is a top priority for all PRSM retailers and we are dedicated to working with our members to maximize energy efficiencies across multi-site retail facilities,” stated Bill Yanek, PRSM’s CEO.  “We are proud to partner with the DOE to present the Advanced RTU Awards during our national conference and look forward to working with them in the future on this and other energy efficiency programs”

The Advanced RTU Campaign is a U.S. Department of Energy market transformation initiative that encourages commercial building owners and operators to improve the efficiency of roof top units across the country. Organizations are replacing older, inefficient RTUs and retrofitting existing RTUs with advanced controls to reduce energy costs and improve thermal comfort. New systems can reduce a building's cooling and ventilating energy consumption by 20–50% and save as much as $3,700 per RTU—equivalent to $6.7 billion and 670 trillion Btu annually for upgrading all the RTUs across the country.
