More than 2,100 PRSM members and more than 400 exhibitors helped to make PRSM2017 National Conference held at the Gaylord Texan Conference Center, Grapevine, TX, last week one of the most memorable ever! The conference kicked of this year with a definite Texas flair!
Pre-conference activities, included a special sustainability tour of AT&T Stadium home of the Dallas Cowboys. Almost 80 PRSM members tee-d it up at the rainy PRSM Charity Golf Classic tournament held at Cowboys Golf Course, while more than 40 members volunteered for the PRSM Charity work day that transformed the entry way to the Volunteers of America Texas Division addiction treatment center. Volunteers painted the drive-up entry way and curbs, striped the parking lot and landscaped the facility.
Tuesday’s schedule was jump started during the General Session when outgoing PRSM Board Chair, Leigh Pearson was recognized by Dallas Cowboys great, Drew Pearson, in a surprise presentation. New Board Chair Jonathan Bauer, proclaimed 2017 “The Year of the Customer” and reminded attendees that they are all PRSM customers and that everyone needs to provide PRSM feedback on what they need and want from PRSM.
Richard Rawlings, star of Discovery Channel’s Fast N’ Loud, provided the keynote address for the General Session. Using examples from his skyrocketing career in building custom cars and starring on the hit TV series, he coached attendees on how to: create disruption internally that leads to innovation, manage under tight deadlines, build a strong brand, excel even when a key team member leaves and set the vision for yourself and your organization.
The awards luncheon recognized PRSM’s Retailer of the Year, Supplier of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Service Excellence Awards and the Department of Energy presented their Advanced RTU awards that included six PRSM retailers as recipients.
The retail FM industry’s largest exhibit hall opened Wednesday afternoon to a rush of retailers all eager to meet with more than 400 exhibitors covering 143,000 square feet of space. The exhibit hall was also open Thursday afternoon.
Thursday was dedicated to more than 20 different PRSM educational offerings that ranged from Game Changer sessions designed to challenge current management practices to highly technical presentations.
As the sun set across nearby Grapevine Lake, PRSM members gathered at the Glass Cactus, the Gaylord’s unique concert/party facility. They feasted on Tex-Mex, BBQ, and nitrogen-chilled ice cream as they waited for one of the top bands of the late 60’s, 70’s and 80’s to hit the stage.
Kool and the Gang did not disappoint as they rocked their way through one hit number after another. PRSM members swayed, clapped and some just soaked up the sound that took them back to their earlier years. The band closed with the perfect number “Celebration!” a number one hit for the group and the perfect way to close out another great PRSM National Conference.
