PRSM member, Mandy Rennehan, Founder and CEO of Freshco, a boutique retail facilities firm in Canada and Northeastern United States, knows first-hand that North America is facing a shortage of skilled workers. She is one of Canada’s top entrepreneurs and is passionate about inspiring women and girls to aspire to a career in the trades – she is redefining the collar, blue™.
Mandy wants to help change the answer to ‘what do you want to be when you grow up?’ so she partnered with Mattel for Barbie’s You Can Be Anything Mentorship Program. The program is designed to give Canadian girls with big hopes a real-life, hands-on career experience with women who have followed their passions all the way to success.
A national contest was held to find a young girl who aspired to a career in the skilled trades. The winner was 8-year-old Xoe Nickerson from Nova Scotia. Mandy (a.k.a. Bear) and her young protegee Xoe (a.k.a. Bear Jr.) became the face and voice of "Builder Barbie."
Mattel has released video from the mentorship day in the hopes it will help inspire the next generation and help us get one step closer to bridging the skilled trade gap.
With more than 180 careers and counting, Mattel and Barbie have always encouraged girls to imagine anything they can become.
Born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Mandy Rennehan’s indigenous Atlantic roots are undeniable. Her contagious honesty and passion are equally matched by her quick wit and East Coast sense of humour.
