Hundreds of PRSM members descended upon Indianapolis and the race was on to connect, collaborate on mutual problems and contribute during PRSM’s 2017 Mid-Year Conference. Pre-conference activities were packed with the Volunteers of America work project, a behind-the-scenes tour of the Indy 500 race track, committee meetings and a special leadership training session for women in facilities management.
The opening reception provided members the perfect opportunity to reconnect with industry friends, make new ones and focus on identifying who was on their race team – a networking challenge that kicked off during registration and continued until the closing session.
Thursday revved up the pace with Retailer-to-Retailer Best Practices sessions, a Retail Quick Connect session where suppliers met face-to-face with dozens of retailers in a “speed dating” type setting.
More than a dozen education sessions provided FMs opportunities to take a deep dive into topics ranging from HVAC management to leadership styles.
Jonathan Bauer, 2017-2018 PRSM Board Chair and Senior Director of Store Development Gap, Inc. took the stage to crank up the General Session and reminded members that this was the “Year of the Customer.” Bauer emphasized that the PRSM Board was dedicated to developing a long-term vision for the association and to listening to members.
“We have established The Voice committee to make it as easy as possible for members to communicate their needs and wishes to both the Board and the PRSM staff,” said Bauer. “We have a dedicated email account for The Voice Committee, and we are always willing to listen to your questions, concerns and ideas to improve PRSM.” To communicate with The Voice committee email email@example.com .
PRSM CEO, Bill Yanek, followed Bauer and outlined how PRSM has listened to members, improving the ratio of retailers to suppliers at conferences, changing badge designs, and developing new, leading-edge programs to address member needs.
“PRSM-365 is much more than a slogan,” emphasized Yanek. “PRSM provides much more than just two conferences per year. We have developed industry-leading white papers, dynamic benchmarking capabilities, FM tools and other resources that empower our members year-round to lead the industry into the future.”
Yanek also highlighted achievements in educational programs, the PRSM Charity, growth in Canadian membership and other ways PRSM is evolving to better serve a dynamic membership and industry.
Coach Lou Holtz delivered a powerful keynote address that inspired the audience to have a vision, be committed to excellence, build relationships based upon trust, and to truly care for their team members, families and others. “Winning teams are built around trust, commitment and love,” he told PRSM members. “It takes all three if you want to succeed in sports, business or life.”
When the Mid-Year Exhibition floor opened, hundreds of suppliers were ready to meet with retailers to share solutions and services all designed to meet FM challenges. This year’s show floor also featured a live “race track” where attendees could race remote controlled cars against each other.
Friday dawned and brought more opportunities for attendees to visit the PRSM Experience, where they could find PRSM resources, learn more about the association and get involved. The Fuse session provided retailers and suppliers time to discuss total cost of ownership, aka TCO, and learn how other members use TCO to lower FM costs and maximize profits.
When the Show Floor wrapped up, the Ignite Luncheon took off. Unlike previous Mid-Year Conference luncheons, Ignite featured PRSM members who delivered inspirational messages about: hope, perseverance, hiring our heroes and learning how we can all stretch to reach goals
Members arrived at PRSM 2017 Mid-Year Conference ready to race. When they left, they were fueled with new ideas, inspired to go further and faster and dedicated to improving their performance, their teams and the FM industry.
