RFMP Designation

The Retail Facility Management Professional (RFMP) program is designed exclusively for retail facility professionals to elevate industry standards and enhance individual performance. The RFMP designation is a retail-specific solution in the generic world of professional designations. Founded in 2007, the RFMP program stands as a mark of excellence and has evolved to reflect what it takes to manage retail facilities in today's challenging climate.

Earning and maintaining the RFMP is a three-part process. Candidates must first meet eligibility requirements. The next step is to sit for and pass the RFMP exam. Once a candidate has earned the designation they must maintain it by fulfilling certification renewal requirements every three years.

  • You have been employed as a retailer or vendor in the retail facility maintenance field for a minimum of 3 years.
  • You have experience in the following: maintaining retail facilities, troubleshooting retail maintenance issues, full understanding in managing repair and service vendors in terms of scope, quality, cost and timeliness of service.
Upholding PRSM's Code of Conduct

As an applicant to the RFMP designation, you are required to pledge to uphold PRSM's Mission Statement and Code of Conduct.

When you earn the RFMP designation, you will be recognized for this distinguished achievement with:

  • RFMP Certificate to display in your office.

  • Use of the RFMP logo for your business cards and biographical information.

For individuals seeking the designation, the cost to sit for the exam is:

  • $295 - PRSM member
  • $790 - Non-PRSM member

Retake fees:

  • $125 - PRSM member
  • $175 - Non-PRSM member

Individuals must achieve a score of 75% or higher on an experience-based exam to earn the designation. View the eight comprehensive categories covered on the exam.

Each candidate has two hours to complete the exam which is administered at one of our proctored testing facilities located across the United States and in Canada. During the online registration process, you may select the most convenient date, time and testing facility. You may elect to reserve the first available time or make an appointment several months in advance - the choice is yours. Set up an account and view testing facilities in your area.

Practice Exam

A Practice Exam is available online and is a great starting point.  In particular, it:

  • Provides an idea of the format of the actual exam.
  • Displays the correct answer and reasoning for any questions answered correctly.
  • Displays scoring as a total percentage of the correct responses, and as a percentage correct for each of the 8 assessment categories

A Certification Mark of PRSM 

Each RFMP designee is required to earn 18 CEUs for each 36-month period. The continuing education requirements commence the date the RFMP designation is earned.

RFMP designees are responsible for self-reporting CEUs earned during the three year period.

Note: PRSM will do random audits and will request documentation for any non-PRSM education courses.

If you do not renew your RFMP designation, it becomes invalid and you are no longer recognized as a PRSM RFMP designee.
