The Benchmarking Snapshot, “Retail Facilities Maintenance Industry Overview,” features information from PRSM’s 2017 Retail Facilities Maintenance Industry Overview Benchmarking Tool which is designed to collect data and give members access to pre-configured results and question-by-question comparisons of performance against peers. The survey was divided into three sections. Your Retail Stores section contained questions about demographics and building details. The section Your FM Organization included questions on organization structure and budgeting. Lastly, Your FM Practices section asked questions on preventive versus reactive maintenance and sustainability.

Facilities Management Mobile Technology

Facilities management (FM) mobile technology refers both to the mobile devices and mobile applications (“apps”) used to accomplish FM tasks, such as communications, work order and inventory tracking. Additionally, a mobile app may perform such tasks by interacting with an FM system, such as a building automation system (BAS). Therefore, the survey examined the devices and apps currently used in this area along with the specific tasks and systems being utilized. For retail facilities management professionals who don’t use FM mobile apps, the survey explored their preferences for tasks to be completed by apps, systems to be accessed with apps, and app developers.

Retail Facilities Maintenance Sourcing

Sourcing refers to a number of procurement practices, aimed at finding, evaluating and engaging suppliers for acquiring goods and services. The PRSM Sourcing Snapshot Survey examined sourcing practices of PRSM Members’ retail facilities sourcing departments both generally as well as for ten specific trades – HVAC Preventive Maintenance (PM), HVAC Repair and Maintenance (R&M), electrical, janitorial, plumbing, landscaping, roofing, painting, lighting and general maintenance. Topics covered included work order and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) usage, work order cost and efficiency metrics, methods of negotiation, pricing structures and supplier preferences.

Energy Initiative Study

This benchmarking report is a tool retail FM professionals can use to improve energy management programs. The report highlights opportunities to: implement financially attractive energy efficiency projects, explain how energy efficient retrofit projects included in capital plans drive continuous improvement, and demonstrate that managing energy in a leased space is more difficult than owned space, but not impossible. Technology enhances the speed with which both vendor and retail organizations can verify the services performed. It can also possibly expedite invoicing and promote on‐time payment processes. This survey reports on the current practices and technologies used by 208 vendor organizations. Retail FM Industry Overview

Approximately 40 percent of PRSM Association retail members participated in the survey. Retail | Work Verification Survey Results
Published: 2014

Retail facilities professionals oversee stores located in a wide range of geographic regions which can make it difficult to verify services or work invoiced, hence the need for standardized work verification processes. Currently, there is an assortment of tools and technologies available to confirm the services performed. This survey reports on the work verification practices of 121 retail organizations. The survey responses are representative of the PRSM retail members with a 95 percent confidence level and 6.66 percent margin of error.
