Legendary football coach Lou Holtz delivered a powerful message during the General Session that garnered a standing ovation. Nordstrom is trying something different: stores without inventory.
The department store chain announced Monday that it's preparing to roll out a new line of stores, called Nordstrom Local. The first of its kind is set to open in West Hollywood, California, on Oct. 3. The stores will be 3,000 square feet, instead of a typical Nordstrom box size of 140,000 square feet. Wal-Mart on Sunday promised another round of donations to help those people impacted by hurricanes in the U.S. so far this year. This could bring Wal-Mart’s total commitment to $30 million. Wal-Mart has 8 percent of its brick-and-mortar fleet in Florida, or 375 facilities, Costco has 23 stores in the state, while smaller rival Target operates 122 locations. Click here to read more.
Nearly all — 99% — of adults buy some or all of their groceries in-person, according to a survey by the International Council of Shopping Centers. The immediate access to products (71%) and the ability to select fresh meat, dairy and produce (70%) were the top reasons driving in-store shopping, along with the ability to see all other items in person (69%). Holiday shoppers plan to spend more this year and while 83% of shoppers say they will make purchases online during the upcoming holidays, 77% say they will still buy in stores, because they want to be able to feel, touch and try on products. Amazon, Target and TJ Max will be most popular with the younger crowd, while Walmart, Kohl’s and Costco top the list for older shoppers. Check out the entire report here.
